Not Your Mom's PB&J (Not that there's anything wrong with hers)

[Hey, this is Adam The Amateur Gourmet. I'm on vacation in Barcelona, Spain.... actually, I'm back! I came back yesterday, as a matter of fact. But let me have the rest of the week off, ok? Today, our final day of guest posts, is TV Day. And our first guest posters of the day have their own TV show. It's my friends Jeffery Self and Cole Escola of Jeffery & Cole Casserole, which you should be watching on Logo every Friday night. Remember I made them a casserole? Well now they make us a PB&J. Take it away, Jeffery and Cole!]

JEFFERY:

Hello bloggers I am Jeffery Self.

COLE:

And I am Cole Escola.

JEFFERY:

We have a TV show called JEFFERY AND COLE CASSEROLE.

COLE:

It was my idea.

JEFFERY:

Yea. That's right..... (shifting my eyes) it was his idea.

COLE:

But I am glad Jeffery is on it too.

JEFFERY:

Thanks for having me, old friend.

COLE:

You're very welcome.

JEFFERY:

Should we get started?

COLE:

Yes.

JEFFERY:

When Cole and I film JEFFERY AND COLE CASSEROLE we find its very important to stay nutritionized.

COLE:

Some people stay nutritionized with vitamins but we're traditionalists.

JEFFERY:

And by that, Cole means we prefer food. A lot of food.

COLE:

We're growing boys!

JEFFERY:

But when you're filming a low budget, mediorcre, cable television show with a webcam you can't just eat anything.

COLE:

Thats right! Jeffery and I stick to a strictly regimented diet in order to stay energized and sober up.

JEFFERY:

So lets start with breakfast. Cole and I never start filming that early so we usually enjoy breakfast alone. What's your breakfast regime, Cole?

COLE:

Mornings are all about getting revved up to plow through the day. I start by drinking half a two-liter bottle of Diet Coke and I finish by drinking the other half of it. Then I'm ready to go!

JEFFERY:

Is that really what you do?

COLE:

A lot. I just chug diet coke and watch Whoopi.

JEFFERY:

By the time The View comes on, I've usually had breakfast already. In fact, I always schedule my time to eat breakfast to coincide with the first fifteen minutes of Regis and Kelly. There's nothing more comforting than listening to them talk about their weekends while eating Fiber One. I always eat a high fiber cereal. I prefer FiberOne Original but sometimes I switch it up to Kashi Go Lean. Breakfast is simple and then we get started on our filming.

COLE:

We film and gossip but for us, LUNCH is the most important meal of the day.

JEFFERY:

And there's one lunch dish that stands above the rest.

COLE:

That's right. A veritable titan in lunching.

JEFFERY:

We're not talking tuna, folks.

COLE:

The class: Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich.

JEFFERY:

Now, PBJs don't have to be the two slices of Wonder Bread and a scoop of Jiff like your mom used to make.

COLE:

God, I hate your mom.

JEFFERY:

I completely understand. Anyhow. I am lucky enough to live near the source of the greatest PBJ dispensery in New York City.

COLE:

Amy's Bread.

JEFFERY:

Amy's Bread is DELICIOUS. They have three locations in New York City. In the Chelsea Market, the West Village, and Hell's Kitchen. Check them out here

COLE:

When friends and superstars appear on JEFFERY AND COLE CASSEROLE we repay them by treating them to Amy's world class PBJ.

JEFFERY:

What makes Amy's PBJ so good, you ask?

COLE:

One word y'all. THE BREAD.

JEFFERY:

It's all about the bread.

COLE:

That's where other PBJs go wrong. They focus too much on the peanut butter and skimp on the bread.

JEFFERY:

You could do it at home if you wanted. Go to the best bakery near you, get the freshest most delicious bread you can get and class up your traditional PB and J a little bit.

COLE:

Use natural peanut butter, of course-

JEFFERY:

My favorite brand is put out by Peanut Butter and Co. based here in NYC.

COLE:

As far as Jam goes I prefer Bonne Maman.

JEFFERY:

Or the kind my next door neighbor's grandmother made for us. You can try a recipe like this.

COLE:

Another PB and J FAQ. Do you butter the bread?

JEFFERY:

I don't know.... do you?

COLE:

If you're eating it right away, no. If you're packing it for a lunch, ABSOLUTELY. How many times have you had a PB and J that's ruined because it's been sitting in your bag and the bread is all soggy from the jelly? RIGHT?! But if you butter the jelly side of the bread on the sandwich, it keeps the jelly from making the bread soggy by creating a butter-shield.

JEFFERY:

Butter Shield? Aren't you related to her?

COLE:

By marriage, not blood.

JEFFERY:

Ah.

COLE:

Another PB and J FAQ: What do you eat with your gourmet PB and J?

JEFFERY:

Taking a tip from Peanut Butter and Co. in Greenwich Village, I really enjoy having a bag of potato chips and some slices of carrots with my PB and J. The salty chips make the peanut butter pop and the jelly sing. The carrots act as a palate cleanser and make you feel a little bit less guilty about having a giant PBJ and greasy chips.

COLE:

Well F me in the A, Jeffery! All this talk about PB and Js has got me jonesing for a trip to Amy's Bread!

JEFFERY:

Well then stop your belly-achin', put a shirt on and let's go!

COLE:

Okay!

JEFFERY:

For more advice on lunch from Cole and me, watch JEFFERY AND COLE CASSEROLE on Logo, Fridays at 11pm.

COLE:

Or you can watch it on logoonline.com like my mom does.

JEFFERY:

Mine too!

COLE:

You can do that right now. So go. Watch it online.

JEFFERY:

What are you waiting for?

COLE:
