My Very Own Herb Garden

Our neighbor Chloe is a godsend. Not only did she plant the Meyer lemon tree near our door, but when we go away on vacation, Chloe watches our cat, Lolita. If the list ended there, Chloe would still be a hero in my book. But then the other day, I received the following e-mail: "Hi Adam, do you have time to step outside to the garden? Chloe."

I wasn't sure what to expect. At some point, she'd mentioned that she'd planted sage--maybe she was going to show me where to find the sage?

But sage, it turns out, was just the tip of the iceberg. Chloe planted me an entire herb garden right outside my door! As you can see in the photo above, my new herb garden has a Simon & Garfunkel album's worth of herbs: basil, sage, parsley, chives, nasturtium, and thyme.

"And the best part is," says Chloe, "the more you cut it, the more they'll grow back."

Chloe instantly went from hero to superhero with one incredibly kind gesture. And this weekend, I'll be using up those herbs in omelets, salads, pasta sauces and more.

So thank you, Chloe, for such a kind gift! Hopefully, I'll treat this herb garden better than the last one someone gifted me (R.I.P. Indoor Aerogarden).
